POWER - Providing Opportunities While Empowering Responsibility

Burtchus R. Lathan, Jr POWER Center dedicated February 27, 2010

The Burtchus R. Lathan, Jr POWER Center was designed in hopes of creating a safe haven for youth 10-17 in an effort to reduce gang involvement, delinquency, substance use/abuse and teen pregnancy. The facility is housed in a 2,200 sq ft F facility located in Spindale NC and has 2 classrooms, a computer lab and game rooms with pool tables, air hockey, video games and a cafeteria that provides a free evening meal.

The POWER Center operates Monday, Tuesday,  and Thursday from 3-6:30 pm during the school year with office hours on Wednesday.  The agency has extended spring and summer hours.  Youth Empowerment also operates a small feeding site for youth in the summer and sometimes has additional bags of food for families with school age children.
